Hah! Good to see this in writing. I'd like to post this, or maybe link it, to our Love Cafe blog. Let me know if not. Here's the link to that blog if interested. <3

Revolutions come in many forms and the work is never done. I came out when the word "gay" was not mentioned on TV and gay bars had no windows. Progress has been made on many fronts when it comes to gay rights. Congrats to all us working for equality.

As for rights as Americans (in general) we still have to work for the basics that most Western Europeans have: universal health care, universal day care, free university, quality public eco-friendly transportation, and sustainable economies overseen by transparent local, state and federal governments. Onward and upward we go.

Great first post. It really captures my sentiments about the Castro perfectly—it feels tawdry and far from revolutionary—but just like Disneyland, there's no other place like it. (Except, uh, maybe Disney World? But who wants to go to Florida anyway.)

I too lament missing what the Castro apparently once was. While I imagine no one would go as far as to wish to have been part of the community devastated by HIV/AIDS, I certainly wish to have felt the sense of community that was clearly so incredibly strong in the Castro during that time.

Regardless, I'm still happy to embrace for what it is now. Sure it can feel overly commercial and a little soulless, but for me, it still hasn't ceased to be incredibly liberating at the same time.
